Our Story
Geig’s Orchard
Geig’s Orchard was purchased in the early 1940s by James and Margaret Geig and originally operated as a dairy farm.
When James and Margaret retired from the dairy business in the late 1950s, they planted a few apple trees for pleasure and home use. Before long, those trees grew into something more, and the Geigs found themselves in the apple business. James’ love of farming was passed down through his son, Elmer, and later to his grandson, Brian.
For decades, Brian and Lynn Geig cared for the orchard, growing the farm into a place known for quality fruit, fresh-pressed cider, homemade canned goods, and a deep connection to the community. In 1997, the family added the fruit cannery, Of the Field Co., expanding the orchard’s offerings and giving customers even more ways to enjoy the harvest year-round.
Today, Geig’s Orchard is entering its next generation with Kelly Geig and her husband Chris continuing the family tradition. As a fourth-generation family farm, we are proud to carry forward the care, quality, and hospitality that have shaped the orchard for more than 70 years.
We grow and sell peaches, plums, apples, squash, pumpkins, and other seasonal produce. Our cider is pressed on-site using carefully selected cider apples and contains no added sugar or preservatives. It has become a favorite for many customers who return year after year for its fresh, sweet taste.
At Geig’s Orchard, we take great pride in growing quality fruit and creating a welcoming place for families to visit, pick, learn, and enjoy the season. Each year brings something a little different, but our purpose stays the same: to care for the land, share the harvest, and make people feel at home.
Of The Field Co.
In 1997 the Geig family started a new venture, our own line of preserved fruit specialties. Our licensed cannery, a part of this building, was opened in the summer of 1997, when we began producing cherry pie filling and summer apple sauces. Since then we have found our creative rhythm and have added over a dozen types of jams and jellies, pie fillings, pickled vegetables, salsa and apple butter.
Of the Field products contain no preservatives, and no artificial flavoring or colors. What you see is what you get, the red cherry filling is just that - the all natural color of the cherry juice. And the extraordinary flavor of the peach pie filling and apple sauces are all their own!
We are having such fun preserving nature's prizes, and hope that you will enjoy our products to their fullest. They make beautiful kitchen decorations, and wonderful gifts. Our pie fillings are ready to bake in your favorite crust, and make great crisps and cobblers. Delicious over ice cream or pancakes, some people eat them right from the jar!
