Our Story

Geig’s Orchard

Geig's Orchard was purchased in the early 1940's by its founders James and Margaret Geig, and originally operated as a dairy farm.

When James and Margaret retired from the dairy business in the late 1950's, they planted some apple trees for pleasure and home use. Soon, the orchard grew, and the Geigs were in the apple business! James' love of farming has since been passed down through his son, Elmer, and grandson, Brian.

The farm has passed through generations, and is currently operated by grandson, Brian and his wife, Lynn. The addition of a fruit cannery, Of the Field Co., in 1997 expands the family operation to other grandchildren and cousins.

The Geigs take great pride in producing and selling only the highest quality fruit. Even after 60 years, they stand in awe of God and Mother Nature when the biggest Melrose and the pink blushed Golden Delicious come in from the field each fall.

Geig's Orchard grows and sells peaches, plums, apples, squash, and pumpkins. Cider is pressed on-site with only the highest quality cider apples. It is awarded by many as the only cider they will drink because of its sweet taste and lack of sugar and preservatives.

Of The Field Co.

In 1997 the Geig family started a new venture, our own line of preserved fruit specialties. Our licensed cannery, a part of this building, was opened in the summer of 1997, when we began producing cherry pie filling and summer apple sauces. Since then we have found our creative rhythm and have added over a dozen types of jams and jellies, pie fillings, pickled vegetables, salsa and apple butter.

Of the Field products contain no preservatives, and no artificial flavoring or colors. What you see is what you get, the red cherry filling is just that - the all natural color of the cherry juice. And the extraordinary flavor of the peach pie filling and apple sauces are all their own!

We are having such fun preserving nature's prizes, and hope that you will enjoy our products to their fullest. They make beautiful kitchen decorations, and wonderful gifts. Our pie fillings are ready to bake in your favorite crust, and make great crisps and cobblers. Delicious over ice cream or pancakes, some people eat them right from the jar!
